KZN TOP BUSINESS AWARD

BEST RUN DISTRICT

uThungulu District Municipality was awarded the KZN Premier's Service Excellence Award for the Best Run District Municipality at a glittering awards ceremony on 24 July 2014 in Durban. The award is a milestone achievement recognising the sterling effort of the District Council and officials to maintain a record of service delivery excellence and good governance within the acceptable parameters of local government legislation. MANDELA DAY: WORKING TOGETHER FOR A CLEANER DISTRICT

STATE OF THE DISTRICT ADDRESS 2014

The State of the District Address 2014 took place on 28 June 2014 at Mkhindini Sportsfield, Ward 5, Mthonjaneni Municipality. The District Mayor, Cllr TVB Mchunu presented the State of the District Address to communities who were transported from all six local municipalities in the uThungulu District. The event also launched the 20 Years of Freedom booklet compiled by uThungulu to highlight the achievements of the past two decades.

 

DISTRICT FRESH PRODUCE MARKET LAUNCH

The official launch of the uThungulu Fresh Produce Market was a grand occasion presided over by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma on 06 May 2014. The event was the culmination of months of hard work to prepare the farmers for production, establish the Pre-Market and secure a market for the sale of the produce. Since the inception of the uThungulu District Fresh Produce Market, concept/project initiative the District has finalized the establishment of the Entity and this has been registered as uThungulu Fresh Produce Market (Pty) Ltd. uThungulu District Municipality has established the interim market to provide market access to the farmers and sufficient supply to consumers alike.  President Zuma praised the District Mayor for the initiative and was impressed with the quality of the fresh produce, all of which has been sourced from farms in our local municipalities. The event was widely attended by stakeholders from the government and business sectors.

MIDDLEDRIFT WATER TREATMENT WORKS OPENING

The Middledrift Water Treatment works was officially opened by Minister Edna Molewa on 08 April 2014 at Nkandla. In the picture above the tap is opened to symbolise the launch of the reticulation at Middledrift. AMAKHOSI JOIN DISTRICT COUNCIL

District Traditional Leaders were officially inducted into the uThungulu District Council recently. CLEAN AUDIT

It was a month for great celebration when uThungulu and its entities were given Clean Audits for the 2012/2013 financial year. The Auditor-General handed over the audit reports for the past financial year at a function in Pietermaritzburg and the report was a wonderful conclusion to a year characterised by hard work and dedication. First Lady of KZN, Mayor TVB Mchunu, thanked Management and staff for their efforts and urged them to continue on the same track to maintain the status going forward. The Office of the Auditor-General also praised uThungulu for attaining this achievement and being only one of seven municipalities in the province to do so. Of further pride to the district is that two of our local municipalities, ie. the City of uMhlathuze and Ntambanana Municipality, also achieved clean audits. All other local municipalities in the uThungulu family received unqualified audit reports.

BEST DISTRICT IN KZN

 
   
uThungulu District Municipality won the award for Best Performing District at the KZN Municipal Excellence Awards hosted on 31 October 2013 by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Afafirs (COGTA KZN) The prize included trophies and a cash prize of R1-million.
Mfolozi Municipality, one of the six local municipalities in the uThungulu District, also won the same amount for being placed first in the category for Best Performing Medium Municipality, as well as awards for community and infrastructure projects.
As a district we are proud of our collective effort.

LAUNCH OF GREATER MTHONJANENI WATER PROJECT

The Minister of Water Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa officially opened the uThungulu District Municipality’s largest regional bulk water scheme on Saturday 24 August 2013.

The Greater Mthonjaneni bulk water project services parts of uMlalazi, Mthonjaneni and Ntambanana local municipalities. The project is aimed at eradicating water backlogs of 30%. The event took place at Ward 3 in Mthonjaneni and was officiated by the Hon Minister Molewa; District Mayor Cllr TVB Mchunu; Mthonjaneni Mayor Cllr Shadile Ndlangamandla; Umlalazi Mayor Cllr TB Zulu; District Speaker Cllr ME Mzimela; Umlalazi Speaker Cllr EN Mtshali; Nkosi Mpungose and Nkosi Zulu and the Hon Lydia Johnson.
